Feral Fluff
If you go down to the woods today, near Bungendore anyway, just east of the ACT, you’re sure for a big surprise.
For every bear that ever that was, will gather there for certain because, Bungendore is the spot where hundreds of teddy bears, giraffes, gorillas and other fluffy toys have been nailed to trees along a stretch of the Kings Highway.
Mystery surrounds the stuffed fauna. A local show on ABC South-East Radio speculated that the first Ted commemorated a road fatality. And when Council removed the feral animal, friends of the deceased retaliated with a plague of new squatters.
Column 8, the curio column in the Sydney Morning Herald, has floated another theory, again accusing the Council of hard-hearted behaviour. Seems plans were afoot to widen the road and NIMBY activists responded by installing umpteen bedfellows along the drive form Queanbeyan.
Take the trip yourself – just make sure your passengers do the bear-watching.
