Micronations
Touring the globe, looking under rocks for unrecognised republics, three authors (King John Ryan, Czar George Dunford and Jedi Simon Sellars) have compiled a brilliant atlas of the odd.
Micronations – the Lonely Planet Guide to Home-Made Nations – is a work of high quirk. Across five continents, and 150 pic-laden pages, you can read all about Westarctica, the Republic of Kugelmugel and a sweet UK enclave labelled Lovely.
Keep dropping by this week and you’ll learn more about a few other fruitcake federations that crop up within Australia, all thanks to our trio’s roaming.
As a matter of fact, already on the Cassowary site, you’ll find snippets given over to local lairds: The Baron of Bumbunga (in South Australia) and His Royal Highness Leonard I and Princess Shirley of Hutt River Province (in WA).
But the Micronation crew have unearthed three more gems to consider, all of which we’ll run in miniature this week. Assuming you own the correct viceregal visa, you may wish to visit the potentates in residence.
